Teaching Peace and Friendship Through Ultimate Frisbee
It is always a thrill for us when we have the opportunity to welcome Eisner alumni back to camp to share their passions and professions with our community. Today, we were joined by former camper, counselor, and unit head Jacob Barr, who now works with Ultimate Peace (UP), a non-profit organization that teaches the values of peace and friendship to youth in the Middle East using Ultimate Frisbee.
Celebrating Art: Play Week, Chagigah Highlight Final Week of First Session
We are very proud of the daily activities we offer here at Eisner. All summer, our campers have been hard at work honing their skills and creativity, from the stage to the recording studio to the pottery wheel. After weeks of rehearsals, sketches, and countless coats of paint, our entire camp community finally got to see all the art, in its many forms, that campers created this session.
Jewish Life Update Week 4: Giving Until It Feels Good
Every year, our Ofarim campers work all first session to learn about tzedakah––from its Biblical roots to why and how they can give. Each camper has the opportunity to select one of three issue areas: environment, discrimination, or poverty, to explore further. They learn some surprising things as well.
Eisner Camp Kindness Day: Acts of Loving Kindness
Today, along with camps across the country, we are focusing on those final few words: G’milut chasadim, acts of loving kindness. Along with our fellow members of the American Camp Association, Eisner Camp is proud to be participating in Camp Kindness Day.
Day Camp Takes Eisner by Storm
Each week, a group of nearly 50 three to eight-year-olds take Eisner by storm, getting a taste of our camp experience through our Day Camp at Eisner program. While Day Camp is largely separate from the rest of camp, day campers are afforded many of the same opportunities as our older campers: swim, Limud, sports, Shabbat, and more!
A visit from Pulitzer-Prize winner and Eisner alumna Jodi Kantor
It’s always exciting for me to meet people living my dream as professional journalists. As an aspiring journalist myself, I get starstruck by a very different group of “celebrities” than most young people.
Community leaders gather for annual Stakeholders Assembly
This Shabbat, we were thrilled to welcome hundreds of visitors, alumni, and community leaders for our 9th annual Eisner and Crane Lake Camps Stakeholders Assembly. This weekend was an opportunity to honor the countless members of our camp communities without whom our camps and programs would not be possible.
How’s Camp going? Mid-session camper surveys reveal: FUN!
Each summer, we have our campers fill out mid-session and end-of-session surveys to ask just that. We want to know about our campers’ overall experiences, their counselors, activities, friends, and anything and everything else they want to share. It’s our way to not only celebrate the great parts of camp, but also to address the areas that might need tweaking.
A message from Louis: “Stand Up”, this year’s Eisner Camp song
After 24 years at Eisner Camp, I have to admit that the days and summers start to blur together. The song sessions, Maccabiah breaks, and Trip Days are all jumbled together in my mind, creating a beautiful tapestry of nearly three decades of camping.
Jewish Life Update Week 3: Continuing the Practice of Mindfulness
When we asked returning campers which Kesher classes they enjoyed the most, 20% wrote in “mindfulness” classes–that’s more than double the votes that any other subject received. This summer, we have continued to offer mindfulness Kesher classes every week.
